Outreach
We love sharing our passion for science and the ocean! We engage with the public through talks at primary and secondary schools, social media, and interviews for radio, television, and print media about our research, ocean science and conservation. Below are our recent public outreach events.
We also engage with conservation practitioners and resource managers at workshops, through presentations, and by providing scientific information and reviews. Julia has served as a member of the IUCN’s Shark Specialist Group, as an external scientific reviewer for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and the World Wildlife Fund, and participated in national and international workshops for CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna), COSEWIC (Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada), Canada’s Department of Fisheries and Oceans, ICCAT (International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas), IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature), and the Lenfest Ocean Program, among others.
